About Steve Flavel

I am a registered pharmacist with around 30 years of community pharmacy experience, including 18 years as Owner and Principal Pharmacist of Woody Point Pharmacy — an independently accredited pharmacy that achieved 100% QCPP accreditation outcomes at every assessment across my ownership.

In 2025 I made the biggest professional decision of my career: I sold my pharmacy to commit fully to the Full Scope of Practice program. Independent ownership left no realistic room for the study this training deserves, so I stepped out of ownership to up-skill properly — completing the Graduate Certificate of Advanced Practice and Prescribing for Pharmacists at James Cook University, with practical triage experience under my designated prescriber at Jema Clinic, Maryborough.

Skills & Expertise

•Full scope pharmacy practice — clinical triage, structured consultation, assessment, escalation and referral under the Queensland Full Scope of Practice Pharmacy Pilot.

•Community pharmacy leadership — 18 years of ownership covering clinical governance, QCPP compliance, service design (MedsCheck, vaccination, opioid dependence programs) and team development.

•Pharmacist education and peer learning — creator of the JCU Full Scope Cohort 6 resource platform: clinical podcasts, consultation frameworks, red-flag guides and study tools used by my fellow trainees.

•Pharmacy systems and data — self-taught SQL and dispensing-software developer; built automated MedsCheck reporting, interprofessional clinic reports, delivery tracking and stock-management tools.

•Applied AI — practical, judgement-led use of AI for producing clinical learning content, always verified against primary sources and professional standards.

•Industry contribution — founder of the Pharmacy Owners of Australia network (~2,000 members); twice named among the AJP’s "Most Influential People in Pharmacy"; Pharmacy of the Year finalist; inaugural Pharmacy Guild President’s Award recipient.

Looking Ahead

For over 15 years I have shared free resources with my peers — from COVID signage distributed nationally to the AI-assisted training library on this site — because I believe that when I make it to the top, I want to bring as many of my friends with me.

My next chapter is pharmacy ownership under a Full Scope-centred model. I have significant financial resources available for the acquisition of a pharmacy, preferably in the Maryborough / Hervey Bay region due to family commitments, and I welcome conversations with brokers, banner groups and owners considering succession.
